UK entry clearance is issued to UK Visa applicants wishing to stay in the UK for six months or more. This UK visa takes the form of a vignette or sticker placed in a passport at a UK visa issuing post overseas (normally a UK embassy or consulate). The UK entry clearance specifies the purpose for which the holder wants to enter the UK, as well as the conditions of the visa.
How long is Entry Clearance for?
When UK entry clearance is granted, the entry clearance will state a "valid from" date and a "valid to" date. Depending on your entry clearance type, it could be from 24 hours to 10 years and even valid indefinitely.
UK entry clearance processing times vary depending on the country in which the person is applying. You must get a visa before you travel to the UK. British overseas missions in the Eastern European countries may process visa applications on thew same day, while in the Asian countries you may wait for months before you can lodge your visa application.
UK PBS visa holders who are non EEA nationals (including non-visa nationals) who wish to immigrate to the UK for more than six months must obtain UK entry clearance before traveling.
